Andrew Luck has chosen an architectural degree over rebuilding the Carolina Panthers franchise.
He has passed up $40 million for room, board and books.
The Stanford quarterback, considered by many as the best pro quarterback prospect, has decided to return to school rather than be the No. 1 pick in the draft.
Campus Rivalry: Luck's decision
Lopresti column: Luck makes right decision for him
"I am committed to earning my degree in architectural design from Stanford University and am on track to accomplish this at the completion of the spring quarter in 2012," Luck said in a statement.
Stanford was 12-1 including an Orange Bowl victory against Virginia Tech as Luck threw for 3,338 yards and 32 touchdowns.
It is unclear whether Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh, now a hot NFL coaching prospect, will return.
Luck seemed to have no trouble with his decision but when you add the possibility of injury to the possibility of Harbaugh's absence, there is some risk to the quarterback's decision.
