A controversial Marie Claire blog article about the CBS sitcom Mike & Molly by writer Maura Kelly has drawn anger nationwide and dozens of people plan to stage a "Big Fat Kiss-In" protest in front of the magazine publisher's headquarters in New York on Friday. The two meet at an Overeaters Anonymous group and fall for one another while they deal with snide comments from friends and family.
Kelly wrote in an article titled "Should Fatties Get a Room (Even on TV)?" that she would be "grossed out if I had to watch two characters with rolls and rolls of fat kissing each other." She later apologized.
Organizers of the the "Big Fat Kiss-In!", "where love has no weight limit," are calling for people to demonstrate against Kelly in front of the Hearst building in New York City at 6 p.m. local time.
"PLATONIC KISSES!" the event's Facebook page reads. "ROMANTIC KISSES! FAMILIAL KISSES! PECKS ON THE CHEEK! AIR KISSES! FRENCH KISSES! HERSHEYS KISSES! ALL KISSES! ALL SHAPES AND SIZES! EVERYONE IS INVITED!"
As of Friday afternoon, more than 110 people have confirmed their attendance.
