"There's been no progression since the first day he came here," said Art Allen, 30, a Nashville resident and longtime Titans fan. "He looks at one receiver and doesn't look across the field. His leadership is abysmal and there is a lot of immaturity."
Fans said there have been concerns during the last couple of seasons about the negative drama that Young has created, whether it be off-the-field issues involving missed team meetings or his now infamous exit from the field during his final game earlier this season. In that situation, Young tossed his pads into the crowd and, according to reports, disrespected Coach Jeff Fisher in front of the team while in the locker room.
"I think he was given multiple chances," said Franklin resident Josh Edwards, 29, who is also a season-ticket holder. "The public's perception is that he's had two or three chances, if not more. Fisher has been very accommodating, probably more than other head coaches would be."No long-term replacement
While the Titans don't currently have long-term replacement for Young — veteran Kerry Collins has shown durability issues and rookie Rusty Smith is still green — fans believe it could still benefit the team.
"I think this will open up some more opportunities for the Titans," said Courtney Smith, 28, a Nashville resident whose family members are season-ticket holders. "I think they've needed to do this for the last couple of years. Hopefully this will allow another quarterback to be here for a long time, like Steve McNair."
Coaches' future uncertain
Heading into Wednesday, the perception was that owner Bud Adams would either pick Young or Fisher to remain next season. But in a statement, Adams said the organization is still evaluating the coaching staff.
"I think most people are looking at this as you take one and leave one," Allen said. "That's not a done deal. There is the potential that we could lose both."
