Arsene Wenger Hails Arsenal's 'Focus' After 3-0 Win Over Manchester City
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken of his delight at the 'focus' of his team on Sunday, as they ran out 3-0 winner at Eastlands against Manchester City to go second in the Premier League table.
Dedryck Boyata saw red for City after just five minutes after bringing down Marouane Chamakh, and Arsenal duly took advantage from then on with Samir Nasri, Alex Song and Nicklas Bendtner all netting, to relieve the pressure on Cesc Fabregas who missed a first-half penalty when the score was still only 1-0.
But Wenger was happy with the determination his team showed to end a poor run of results against the big clubs.
"[The sending off] gave us an advantage. But we have shown intelligence in important situations and we slowly took over and managed to win the game. It was very important for us to win the game,” Wenger told Sky Sports.
"We were on a few yellow cards and [getting a player sent off] was the danger. We had to calm it down and focus and we did that in the second half.
"We have a great attitude and great spirit so a great basis to do well."
Among a string of great individual performances, Wenger pointed out under-fire goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski’s showing, as the shot-stopper made a series of notable saves at important times to keep City at bay.
"[Fabianski] did everything right. He saved the first chance for [Manchester City]. You can't fault him."
Next up for Arsenal is Newcastle United in the Carling Cup. After selecting a strong side for the last round against Tottenham Hotspurs, Wenger confirmed that it would be more of the same for the next round.
